Marine Sector
Avant Flooring has been developed in Germany with the marine sector in mind. Through looking at the challenges within the sector and specific codes and practices, development has been made to ensure all the necessary requirements have been met. The main challenge within this sector is ensuring lightweight, impact resistance for high traffic flow, waterproofing, slip resistance, sound absorption and no colour fade from sunlight. Avant Flooring solves all these challenges and further improves on previous sector products through its material choices and production methods. Using a unique composite material, Avant Flooring reduces weight while increasing strength, a friction layer increases slip resistance, the columnar honeycomb structure increases sound absorption, and the laminate layer increases impact resistance. Avant Flooring also keeps sustainability as a top priority and prides itself on being eco-friendly with no VOCs, being recyclable, long lasting and easy to maintain.
Sector Challenges & Solutions
Waterproof:
Any cruise ship, yacht or offshore platform of course must be 100% waterproof. Through stringent tests with SGS, Avant Flooring has been certified as 100% waterproof. Any water leakage through the aesthetic outer flooring could also damage the lower levels and lead to mold build-up. This would cause high maintenance and replacement costs if a different flooring of lower quality was used.
Lightweight:
If the flooring of any marine vessel or offshore platform is not lightweight, the design must be much more advanced to ensure floatation. Also, if not lightweight the vessels will require more fuel during travel, leading to increased pollution and a larger carbon footprint. With Avant Flooring’s unique, German developed material composition, it ensures low weight, high strength to weight ratio and superior corrosion and wear and tear resistance. The materials used within the composite are also chosen, not only on how effective they will be to overcome the marine sector challenges, but also on how sustainable they are. During development in Germany it would have been easy to choose strong lightweight materials for Avant’s Flooring, keeping sustainability in mind allowed for new advanced materials to be used and the unique composite took shape.
Sound-absorbing:
Any motorised boats or yachts require improved sound reduction to ensure the peace and comfort of passengers. Avant Flooring’s columnar honeycomb structure comprises of a large number of through holes, which allow sound to pass through them, almost acting as an exhaust, minimizing resonance.
Impact/Abrasion Resistance:
From small boats to large cruise liners, you have constant loading and offloading of equipment and supplies. This would cause damage to the flooring of the vessel. The constant cleaning, due to high passenger flow and constant exposure to the elements, require strong chemicals; which may damage or stain the flooring. Avant Flooring’s Lamination layer allows for exceptional impact resistance, significant abrasion resistance, versatile chemical resistance and stain resistance. The columnar honeycomb structure leads to a high load bearing capacity, further ensuring longevity and sustainability of the flooring with minimal to no maintenance, even with high traffic flow; such as on-board cruise ships and offshore platforms.
Slip Resistant:
If a material is placed in constant contact with water and does not have slip resistance, the risk of occupants and patrons falling due to lower friction is greatly increased and must not be overlooked. The Avant Flooring friction layer leads to a friction level of 20, as found through international testing, ensuring the safety of all patrons.
Colour Variety:
The Avant Flooring colour layer allows for a vast range of up to 15 colours to match any boat, yacht, cruise ship or offshore platforms currently being designed or already completed. This makes Avant Flooring the simple easy and efficient choice for any designer within this sector.
